The brief was to design and develop an education programme around the world's first litter intelligence digital platform. The aim is to inspire in young people a love and appreciation of the natural environment, along with developing the confidence, skills and knowledge to take action in pursuit of a clean, healthy environment for the future. Whilst this programme is focussed specifically on the issue of litter and in particular plastic waste in our oceans, the underlying principles and elements of the programme can be widely applied to a variety of environmental and social issues.
Using blended learning we created a flexible platform for teachers and students changing hearts, minds and behaviours around litter pollution, which easily connects into several areas of the national curriculum and the NZ qualifications framework. The platform was designed to be tailored to suit a variety of educational contexts and age groups, and can be applied to new and existing local initiatives.
